Motor vehicle accidents are so common in Kentucky and throughout the country that most people don’t think twice when they see an accident scene on the side of the road. However, fatal car accidents can still be jarring for any community when they occur. Our readers may have heard about a recent fatal car accident that occurred in nearby Whitley County, in which one woman died.

The reports indicate that the collision – which was head-on – occurred on March 14. Two vehicles were involved as one vehicle, a car driven by a 21-year-old man, crossed into oncoming traffic when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. His vehicle slammed into a car driven by 41-year-old woman.

According to the reports, the woman driver suffered severe injuries in the head-on collision and, in the aftermath of the crash, she was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, she died of her injuries. The male driver who apparently caused this collision also suffered injuries and was transported for medical care as well, but his injuries were described as non-life-threatening in the reports. A third person, a passenger who was in the vehicle with the female driver who died, did not suffer any injuries.

Although liability for this deadly crash appears to be readily apparent, the reports indicate that an investigation of the collision was taking place. It remains to be seen as to why the 21-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle in the first place to such an extent that he could not correct to avoid oncoming traffic.
